Celera Genomics uses LEDA technology to decode the human genome. Algorithmic Solutions Software GmbH September
25, 2000 In September Dr. Knut Reinert from Celera Genomics (http://www.celera.com) visited the Max-Planck-Institute for Computer Science (MPII), Saarbrücken, Germany (http://www.mpi-sb.mpg.de) in Saarbrücken, Germany. He took the opportunity to lecture on Celera's progresses concerning the sequencing of the human DNA. Celera Genomics - as well as the Human genome project (HUGO) - will publish the related results at the end of this year as already announced by Craig Venter, the president of Celera, and representatives of HUGO during a press conference in Washington. Dr. Reinert presented sketches of some of Celera's techniques he and others in their project teams are using to solve the Human genome decoding problem. According to Dr. Reinert, Celera makes extensive use of the object-oriented, C++-based software library LEDA during the assembling phase of the project by applying sophisticated techniques in order to sequence the fragments of the genome into their proper order. LEDA provides both suitable data structures and algorithms as well as the visualization of substructures of the DNA, thus allowing interactive modification of the resulting subsequences. For this, fast and exact computational methods - as implemented in LEDA - are crucial especially for processing large amounts of data. LEDA is the leading product in the field
of graph and network algorithms. LEDA is exclusively distributed by the
